Port Aransas is about 3 hours away and includes a FREE ferry ride onto the island. Allister Square Inn has just been remodeled and has new management. It is also located on Allister St. so you can't miss it.

I like Tulum, on the Riviera Maya, in Mexico. It is about a 2 hour flight from San Antonio, through Cancun... and then a 90 minute ride south down 307. Stunning beaches, especially from the ruins, and a great swimming area. Lots of white sand, rocks, cliffs, and clear sparkling water!

Texas beaches (and I'm a Texan) pale in comparison.

Well it is around a 4 hour drive to Padre Island. But what you want is to go there with a 4 wheel drive and then you can get to some AWESOME beaches there, isolated, and NO CROWDs. Hard to find many places with rocks to jump off of, as they are usually used as breakers or jetties. If not, Padre Island without the 4 wheel is good too.

Padre Island 3 to 4 hours, but worth the trip. On the far east side you can find great food. West side you can see dolplins. SPI is THE party place during spring break inTexas.

Mustang, Port Aransus or Padre is probably one of your nicer areas. It's about a good 3 - 4 hr drive but don't expect to see the same beautiful sandy beaches like Cali or Florida. Unfortunately the Texas coast isn't known for their beaches.

Mustang Island and North Padre is about a 2.5 to 3 hour drive. If you go further south you will find cleaner beaches and clearer water, but the cost of South Padre vs. North Padre or Mustang Island is a huge difference. If you like to camp out, there's like 80 miles of national seashore on Padre Island.

I found that the beaches around Brownsville are probably the best ones.
